Throughout the year a variety of programs, special events for children, activities for families, and training opportunities for professionals take place in the Brant County Community. Please contact the Ontario Early Years Centre: Brant for your Early Years Event to be included in this section.

Lansdowne Children's Center presents
Discipline Through Rose Coloured Glasses
Presented by Resource Teachers
Lansdowne Children's Centre, 39 Mount Pleasant Street, Brantford, ON N3T 1S7

A training session for parents with children 0-6 years of age. This hands-on series is based on principles of "Reframing Discipline". You will learn techniques to

  • build stronger relationships with your child
  • reduce discipline problems with your child
  • build your child's self esteem

You must attend all 4 sessions to get a certificate. Each unit builds on what is learned in the previous unit. The units are

  1. Laying the Foundation - April 14, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  2. Connecting and Acknowledging - April 21, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
  3. Developing an Understanding - April 28, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
  4. Putting it all together - May 5, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Lansdowne Childen's Centre presents
Learn New Skills - Meeting the Growing Needs of Child Care Settings
These interactive workshops build on each other or can stand alone and will address the growing demands that Child Care Settings face on a daily basis.  Centres are faced with a wide range of children who present with learning differences, challenging behaviours, and specific diagnosis including the growing number of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Each workshop will have a combination of active discussion, sharing resources, brainstorming, video examples, and activities to simulate some learning differences, and a variety of strategies will be discussed.

Presenter Sean Kent is a Training Development Specialist and ASD Consultant with 20 years of experience in roles such as Early Interventionist, Behaviour Analyst, Resource Teacher, Provincial Autism Resource Consultant and College Professor. Sean loves what he does, his presentations combine knowledge and experience in an entertaining format that keeps participants engaged in the learning experience.
